Lush Ultimate Shine Solid Shampoo Bar: Guest Review

Hello, my name is Keri and I’m a recovering beauty addict.  Okay, maybe I’m not in recovery, but I’m definitely a more conscious beauty consumer since going vegan.  Sarah has been kind enough to allow me to write a few reviews on her blog, so I hope you find them helpful!  Last week I set out to try LUSH’s Ultimate Shine Solid Shampoo Bar, a little apprehensive about my first attempt at solid shampoo.  Because I have very thick hair, I was worried that the thickness of the shampoo would weight down my locks leaving them flat and lifeless.  My fears were instantly put to rest, however, when I rubbed the wet bar between my hands.  The lather was light and satiny, making my hair feel instantly softer and healthier.  In fact, my hair felt so good that I barely needed any conditioner, applying just a little to my ends. As for scent, I couldn’t detect any fragrance at all.  I even stuck my nose right up to the bar, and if there is any at all, it’s very faint.

I honestly love this solid shampoo bar and its performance, with the only drawback for me being its inclusion of sulfates.  Sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, are harsh, cheap cleansers that can fade color, among other things, and I generally make it a point to purchase shampoos, washes, and soaps without them.  But the benefits of solid shampoos for the Earth are great, with LUSH’s website currently stating that if just 1 in 5 people would switch to solid shampoo, about 22 million bottles would be saved from the landfill.  That’s a lot less waste!  And let’s not forget the biggest plus for me; this product, like many of LUSH’s products, is vegan.  My bar was a fabulous gift, but I’ll most likely be purchasing another.  Ultimate Shines Solid Shampoo Bar is available at LUSH stores, counters, and LUSH.com for $9.25 USD.

Keri – of GlimmerGlossGlow.com and YouTube fame – is a very well respected beauty writer.  She has recently turned her considerable creative talent to her new website called IEatTrees.com, which explores the many aspects of veganism.  On this site she creates vegan dishes, reviews her various vegan purchases, and encourages discussion about the different aspects of a vegan lifestyle.  I am very grateful for her contribution to Dempeaux.com.

Wouldn’t it be great if they could find a way to manufacture this product without sulphates? Sounds like it would be a really good everyday shampoo without them!
