The Barbie Loves Stila All Doll’d Up Eyeshadow Palette represents something not always easy to get when buying cosmetics in Australia – a great quality product at a great price.
It was released in the US towards the end of last year as part of the Barbie loves Stila for Fall Collection, and it’s recently been released in Australia.
Inside the refillable palette is a mirror and four pans, each with three colours. The shadows are a mix of neutrals, colours, and highlighter shades. Amazingly, there is no dead weight here. Each colour is richly pigmented and easy to work with.
Each trio is meant to represent a separate eye look : soft pink, bold colour, earth tone, and smokey. Of course, you can always create your own look with colours from each pan. With so many shadows at your disposal, you have a lot of options.
There are 12 colours in all which can take you from a neutral eye, to a bright eye, to a smokey eye.
This would make a fantastic palette for travel, as it can create so many different looks. The shadows can be used wet or dry (the swatches above are all dry) and the Stila website suggests you use the middle shadow as a liner, but you could easily use it for contouring the eye too.
Each shadow is really beautiful. It’s also a great palette if you haven’t experiemented much with colour, as you can add as much or as little colour as you feel you need, and you won’t be spending lots of money buying expensive blue and green eyeshadows that you may not be comfortable wearing. There are many neutral looks that you can carry off with this palette.
I did experience a little fallout with the light blue shadow, and the packaging is a little tacky, but overall I’m very impressed with this palette.
I’m really surprised that this palette retails for a tiny AUD $37.50 in Mecca. It costs is USD $28 in US stores (and on Stila.com), so it’s one of the few palettes that hasn’t doubled in price as soon as it hit Australian shores. Also, you get 12 shadows in the palette that are all high quality and easy to work with. If you ever finish the shadows, you can always take out the empty pans and refill the palette with other Stila shadows.
This is a really beautiful eyeshadow palette which is well worth a trip to Mecca. It’s my current favourite thing (apart from my Ellis Faas).
