I saw a good deal on Ebay for three NYX lipsticks for AUD $11.90 including shipping, so I went ahead and ordered. I wasn’t impressed with my last NYX purchase of Tea Rose, but thought I might try out a few other lipsticks before I write off the brand. This time I ordered Orange Soda (nude, even though it doesn’t look it in the swatch below), Power (lilac-pink), and Christie (frosted pink). Tea Rose is included for reference.
The first thing that struck me about these lipsticks is that they didn’t have the strong, chemical smell of Tea Rose. In fact, they really had no scent at all.
All of them were quite emollient to apply, but these lipsticks do dry the lips after around 30 minutes wear, so a lip balm underneath is a must. They also don’t last a very long time – perhaps about the same as your average lipgloss.
Here they are applied to my lips.
Orange Soda -
On me this is more of a peachy nude – there’s no orange to be seen. I find this nude very wearable.
A lilac-pink colour that I imagine would be very flattering on a variety of skin tones. Not as lilac as Barry M’s LipPaint in 129, but headed in the same direction.
In real life Christie is a much brighter blue-pink, but it just doesn’t seem to show up in photos that way. A great summer lipstick.
I’ve been much happier with this NYX order than the last. I can see myself wearing Orange Soda and Power as part of my normal rotation.
Remember that if you order these, you will not get a Rouge Allure quality lipstick for the price of a NYX lipstick. What you will get is a very reasonably-priced lipstick with great pigmentation to update your look or experiment with a colour you don’t normally wear.
