As a recovering Chanel addict with a fairly sizeable collection of Chanel makeup, I haven’t purchased from this brand for some time. To be frank, nothing has seemed special enough, or particularly different to the makeup I already have. However, Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in ‘Boy’ has persuaded me to dip my toe back into the water:
The packaging is very sleek and stylish, as you would expect from Chanel. When I first picked it up I noticed that the Rouge Coco Shine is slightly smaller than the Rouge Allures in my collection:
You can see that the Rouge Allure packaging is slightly wider than the Rouge Coco Shine packaging, but the size of the lipstick bullet is actually the same. I’ll spare you the picture of one of my manky lipsticks to prove it!
Rouge Coco Shine in ‘Boy’ is a rosey-pink colour which many people will find infinitely flattering:
The formula is somewhere between a lipstick and a gloss. As you can see in the swatch below, it is on the sheer side as the box suggests; however, it can be built up to fairly opaque coverage:
When I looked at the range in person, I was surprised that most of the lipsticks in the Rouge Coco Shine range looked very similar to Boy, but I think it is typically Chanel to play it safe in their colour range. It doesn’t detract from the beauty of the products, nor their ability to sell.
This lipstick doesn’t last as long as the Rouge Allures, but I still get about two hours’ wear, and the texture is so pleasant on the lips that I don’t mind re-applying. The formula is lightweight and moisturising, although not to the same extent as a lip balm. It has the same sweet scent as other Chanel lipsticks, but it doesn’t linger once applied.
This is such an easy to wear, everyday lipstick that I find myself reaching for it often:
On me, Rouge Coco Shine in ‘Boy’ has a brightening effect which I really enjoy. It makes me look awake and ready to tackle the day. It also makes my lips looks very full and plump.
This is a lipstick that you can have rolling around in your makeup bag ready for touch-ups during the day, as it would pair well with many different makeup looks. I think this would also be great for someone who is just starting out in makeup as it’s so easy to apply and wear.
I purchased my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in ‘Boy’ from Ebay, but these lipsticks are now available at Chanel counters in Australia for AUD $50.
