I recently purchase a couple of vintage dress from Etsy, and I thought I’d share my spoils with you all.
The first is a vintage dress from the 1940s from JolieVintageShop, which I love. JolieVintageShop remains my favourite vintage shop on Etsy by far. I check the store every morning to see if there’s any new stock. The owner of the store has a fantastic eye for interesting, flattering pieces, and her manner of describing the condition and fit of the pieces is incredibly helpful when buying online.
Anyway, here is the vintage 1940s dress:
I’m not really this pale (although I’m close to it) – I just lightened the image a little so that you can see more detail in the dress:
In this photo you can see the detail on the front of the dress. The swirls on the front are sequins and the belt forms a little bow at the front of the dress. I also adore the peplum on this one – I think it falls very well.
You can see the peplum in more detail here:
This dress cost me USD $78 plus $15 shipping to Australia.
Secondly, here is my purchase from LipStickWhiskey. I was looking for a long, warm dress for winter, and this is definitely it. The lady who sold it to me said that it belonged to a New York Socialite, and it dates from the late 40s or early 50s. It certainly is a lovely piece, but a little hot to be wearing right now!
This was actually the best ‘mid-shot’ I came up with when I took these photographs. I REALLY have to work on my photography:
The gold belt is from the same store and dates from the 1950s. I think it suits the piece really well:
This dress cost me USD $65, the belt was $18, and shipping to Australia was $18.95.
So that’s what I bought!
I have a few other pieces to show you, but they need mending and cleaning, so they will have to wait for another post

they fit you PERFECTLY! I especially love the cut of the first dress.
Great red lippy on you btw- what is it?
@Jen Me too – I love that first dress. The fit is just amazing. I’m wearing Illamasqua’s ‘Box’ lipstick
Hellooo gorgeous lady out in the sun to have her picture taken! Woo hoo! You chose really well, I lover the detail on the first peplum style dress, it exaggerates the right places and I love that the shoulders stand out. I already gave my view on the second, two very fabulous purchases. Please come to NY and do some shopping for me

@StyleOnTheCouch It was such a hot day! So much for autumn! I could only stay outside for about five minutes at a time, but I think the pictures are best taken outside
I love that 1940s dress. It looks even better in person, and always gets compliments from people I meet. The second will be good for days when it’s super cold (probably not that cold in NY terms) as it’s very warm. I’d love to do some shopping for you
You are so lovely, Sarah. And those dresses suit you beautifully.
I love that first dress,it makes you look more perfect.
@DeeThankyou so much! So sweet!
@Linda Wow, what a compliment! Thankyou!
I love both of em. There is something so nice about vintage stuff. Maybe the detailing that nowadays costs an arm and a leg. And the clothes seem to have a soul of there own too. You look great in them!
@Olivia I agree. I often wonder about the women who owned these and what places they wore them to. I love the smell too
I’ve never bought clothes on etsy before – usually I’m just there for the jewellry and paper goods, but you’ve inspired me to have a poke around
Great dress by the way – looks faboosh on you!
@Clare I can definitely recommend it! You just have to know your bust, waist, and hip measurements (preferably in inches) and you’re away! Thanks for the compliment
I love this! I am also loving a red lip on you, really suits you
@Tara Thankyou! I love the red lipstick too
You look amazing~ I’m not to secretly kinda jealous of how perfect you look
You walk like a model in the photos <3
great blog !
xoxo
@Celina Awww thankyou so much! That’s such a wonderful compliment! And don’t worry, I only put up the photos I want you to see
@LaPepiteModeuse Merci! J’aime bien ton blog aussi. Il ya une vest que tu porte (“Fringes and Lace”) que j’adore! C’est plutôt chic! Tu est tres jolie
Gorgeous dresses. I particularly like the second one and love the fact that it was previously owned by a socialite. You’ll be channeling the vibe when you wear it I’m sure!

@ModestyBrown I’m sure the sheep will be impressed!
