Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant

I’ve been using Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant for a few weeks now, and even on my dry skin it’s suitable to use every day.  This exfoliant contains fruit enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple which lift away dead skin cells in a non-abrasive fashion.  It works well, leaving the skin soft, and not stripped at all.  However, it’s in the mixing of the product that I encountered a few difficulties; mixing the correct formula required a bit of trial and error.

The instructions on the bottle indicate that two ‘pours’ will put the right amount of the exfoliant in your hands, and from there that you are to make a paste with water.  Firstly, no two ‘pours’ are ever the same with this dispenser, so you’ll have to work out how much powder your need relative to the area you wish to cover.  Secondly, there is no way to make a paste with this formula.  What you should aim to make is something runnier than a paste – like the consistency of milk – without making it too runny or else it’ll run down your arm when you try to apply it to your face.  The first few times I tried to make it I added far too much water, then I didn’t add enough powder, then I didn’t make enough to cover my face.  I’ve found that the best way to do it is to shake the powder into wet hands (use less water than you think you’ll need) and rub together.  From your open hands, apply this straight onto the face, rubbing in circular motions. Once you’ve got the technique sorted, though, it’s quite a straightforward exercise.

The instructions indicate that you should massage the product for one minute, but I’ve never got past the 30 second mark without the product drying, so that’s how long I use it for.  It doesn’t unclog pores and blackheads, but it does loosen the clogs very well making them easier to extract.  It also keep blackheads at bay once you’ve removed them.

Having said all of this, the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant works very well, and is fantastic for removing any dry patches of skin.  I also like the gentleness of the formula.

Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant costs AUD $59.95 and is available from the Alpha H website.

I like Alpha-H products generally, but I’m way too lazy and unco to mess about with that.

@Dee Haha! It becomes easier with practice, but I can understand your point :)

  3. I had a sample of this in a small tub but I had seen the delivery system so I can appreciate the pitfalls you have described. Getting the consistency right is definitely tricky and I agree wet hands is the way forward.

I like how this makes my skin feel after use but I do struggle with the smell. I find it smells very talc-y and if that’s in the mix, I’m a little reluctant to recommend it. Can you see from your tub whether it does contain talc?

@Jane I just grabbed the bottle and the ingredients are: Kaolin, Solum Diatomeae, Bentonite, Carica Papaya Extract, Ananas Sativus Extract, CI 77891. No talc! The smell doesn’t bother me at all, but if you didn’t like the smell I can see that it would be a big problem because it’s to be used on the face. Getting that consistency right is the biggest problem for me, but now that I know the method it’s something I don’t have to think about too much :)

  5. I think it must be the Kaolin that I can smell. The smell doesn’t bother me, it’s more that I was worried that if the smell indicated talc in it, I wasn’t sure whether it wouldn’t be any good for sensitive skins. Thank you so much for checking the ingredients for me, I really appreciate it as it’s put my mind at rest.

@Jane No problem Jane. I’m glad it doesn’t contain talc too! :)

I lovely ladies, I’m very happy to receive your valuable feedback. Yes it can be a tad tricky to form the paste initially but only takes once or twice to master the blend you love to work with. Zero talc, zero abrasion, zero preservatives, zero added fragrance. All which means the kindest and purest way to exfoliant without friction. Pineapple is quite possibly the most de-sensitizing ingredient on the market. Delicate skins will applaud this for it’s ability to reveal what lies beneath the surface. Michelle xxx
