L’Oreal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in #013 Burning Black

A  few weeks ago I read this post on the blog LondonMakeupGirl. I’ve been lusting after the Armani Eyes To Kill shadows in all their pigmented, multi-tonal glory, but have been unwilling to cough up the USD $32 to pay for one.

Grace London’s post featured a comparison between her Armani Eyes To Kills#4 (silver) shadow and the L’Oreal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in Flashback Silver, which is incredibly similar to the Armani. It’s also interesting to note that Armani is owned by L’Oreal, so perhaps the similarity between the two shadows isn’t that surprising.

So what did I do? I headed to Ebay immediately to buy a L’Oreal Color Infallible shadow. I chose ‘Burning Black’, a gorgeous blacked-purple with red undertones:

When you open the lid, there’s a further ‘press’ keeping the shadow tightly packed. The packaging is thoughtfully constructed, and keeps the shadow from migrating all over the bathroom:

This is what the shadow looks like in natural light…

…and in direct sunlight:

I do love a dark eyeshadow, and this is such a wonderful colour for winter. It doesn’t blend out as smoothly as my Rouge Bunny Rouge and other high end shadows, but it’s really not far off. It creases by mid-afternoon, but that’s pretty usual with my very oily lids, even with a primer.

For the price, I think this is an eyeshadow of outstanding quality, and I’m very happy to have it in my collection. The colour is interesting, flattering, and would look great on any eye colour. I would love to own the whole collection of eight shadows! Check out the other seven colours in the collection here.

I bought L’Oreal Color Infallible Eyehshadow in Burning Black from c2picky on Ebay for USD $8 plus $4.50 shipping to Australia.

They are also available from Boots and Superdrug for £6.99 each, $18.95 at PulsePharmacy, and probably everywhere in the States for much less.

Really interesting post. I too have been lusting after the Armani shadows but am loathe to spend without seeing them in person. Next time I’m out I’ll be sure to take a good look at the L’oreal version x

  2. Dempeaux says:

@Jen Thankyou! I think the L’Oreal versions are lovely. Keeps me satisfied anyway! :)

  3. I love the Armani E2K Intense shadows, but it is nice to know that there are affordable alternatives! This way I can pick up more colors without feeling guilty, or try some colors out of my comfort zone!

  4. Dempeaux says:

@productdoctor If you do pick up a L’Oreal, I’d love to know how you feel they compare to the Armani. It’s good news for me that there are affordable alternatives :)

  5. Jade says:

It looks gorgeous, I’ve been lusting after the Armani one for a while now, might give these a go instead, thanks for the seller link :)

  6. Dempeaux says:

@Jade Oh you too? ;) They’re lovely shadows – I hope you love them :)

  7. Natalie says:

I bought one of these shadows – Forever Pink which is a nice shimmery rose gold colour. I found the shadow has good staying power but because of the packaging, it can come off flaky on the brush and not blend well. That said, the colours are gorgeous and I had my eye on this shade as well. I really want an Armani too but can’t justify the cost!

  8. Dempeaux says:

@Natalie That’s really interesting! I applied the shadow (as I do all my shadows) with my finger, but now that I think about it, it was the blending in the crease with my 224 that created a little ‘patchiness’ (you can see it in the photos). Even with that, I’d still buy more of these though. That rose gold sounds amazing! Now, if only I can track it down… ;)

  9. I am always up for a smoky eye lesson. What’s interesting here was that I expected the redish tint to the eyeshadow (purple/red?) to give you almost a bruised eye look, but what I can see on you looks good. One for my wish list!

Thanks for the review! I will look for these here- I love the ETK shadow I have (#4) but they are pricey and I’m a little concerned it will dry out before I get a lot of use of it. You know as well as I do I’ll never finish it! LMAO! Me finish something besides skincare and body wash??? x

  11. That is an awesome colour! I really like the name too. They didn’t have these in my local Boots so I will have to seek them elsewhere. Thank you for the great review and pictures. I’m sold!
    Jane x

  12. Dempeaux says:

@StyleOnTheCouch Me too! But the red comes out just enough to be very flattering on a blue eye colour :) Definitely one to look out for. I think they’re about $12.99 in the US!

  13. Dempeaux says:

@Jeanie Yes, I rarely finish eyeshadow either ;) Definitely check these out – there are some gorgeous colours in the range! :)

  14. Dempeaux says:

@ModestyBrown This is right up your street Jane. Good luck tracking them down! I hope you find this colour – it would look amazing on you :)

  15. Angela says:

Gorgeous! I love a dark wash of colour all over the lid.

  16. Dempeaux says:

@Angela Me too! So amazing for winter :)

  17. Ooh its like a beetle, very cool. It looks so so good underneath your galsses, gives really good depth & definition to your eyes.

  18. Citrine says:

The color looks great on you! I actually never saw these potted eyeshadow in US (the L’Oreal line up here is rather boring)…

  19. LeanneOCD says:

I got the Flashback Silver version and I love them. So pretty and it lasted quite well, although I used UDPP first. I think I need to get my mitts on this colour though, it looks so beautiful on you. They are on offer at the moment for about £5.50 in Superdrug in the UK. Happy to do a custom purchase for you, if you let me know what colour/s you want? @LeanneOCD on Twitter, so tweet me if you want me to pick some up for you. ;o) x

  20. Dempeaux says:

@MeMyBestAndI Haha! I guess it does look like a beetle ;) I do love a dark eyeshadow :)

  21. Dempeaux says:

@Citrine Thankyou! It’s interesting that you didn’t see this range in the US. Perhaps they’re only sold at certain stores?

  22. Dempeaux says:

@LeaneOCD Yes, I use TFSI and it seems to last well! Thankyou so much for the offer to buy for me! So sweet! :D xx

  23. Viv says:

I got this Burning Black one, and it’s gorgeous – it lasted on my oily lids a lot more than most do – until about mid-afternoon as you say. I have a couple of the Armani Eyes to Kill – the blue/gold one and the khaki one. I’d say that they compare pretty closely. I think the Armani ones do come through more with the dual toned effect, but tbh I don’t think most people would notice in practice! Certainly not with the muted down version that I tend to apply for work. Definitely interested in getting some more of these!

  24. Dempeaux says:

@Viv It’s interesting that it lasted in the same way as it did on me! I’m very interested to hear your opnion re: ETK and L’Oreal. I’m still interested in the ETK version because of the dual toned effect you talk about, but I’m not sure it’ll ever be enough for me to actually buy one now that I have the L’Oreal :)
