L’Oreal Color Appeal Eyeshadow in Metal Plum

I picked up L’Oreal’s Color Appeal Metal Plum eyeshadow when I was in desparate need of a study break pick-me-up. It’s a really pretty taupe-mauve colour which has a great texture and is easy to apply and blend:

When I applied it to the back of my hand I was struck by how much it reminded me of MAC’s Satin Taupe. With the name Metal Plum, I was expecting something more, well, plum-coloured:

When compared in the pan with MAC’s Satin Taupe and Victoria’s Secret Private Beach, they look quite different:

But when swatched, these colours look very similar. Satin Taupe is more of a traditional taupe colour, whereas L’Oreal Metal Plum has more of a mauve cast, and Victoria’s Secret Private Beach is a similar taupe-mauve but with a coppery undertone.

As this shadow shifts a bit, I’ve taken a few photos of it applied. The first two show a heavy application…

…and the second two are with a lighter application:

Below is a fairly light application of the shadow, so I’ve added some dark brown liner for added drama:

Here I’ve paired with with Barry M LipPaint in number 129 which is a pale lavender. My blue eyes actually look more green with this shadow on, so green-eyed girls will get a lovely intense look with this shadow.

I really like Metal Plum. I think the mauve is very flattering on the eye. The shadow is easy to apply, buttery soft, and the pattern in the pan shows no sign of disappearing even after quite a few applications. As I like to apply just one colour to the lid, crease, and lower lash line, I really like the way the colour shifts with the light, creating the impression of about three colours on the lid, rather than one.

I bought L’Oreal Color Appeal Eyeshadow in Metal Plum from grantie37 on Ebay for USD $4 plus $4.50 shipping to Australia.

@Michelle Thankyou! It works surprisingly well. I’m not much of a fan of Satin Taupe on me, but perhaps I shall have to revisit that too. Hmmm :)
