Over the past few weeks I’ve accumulated a few more dresses, and below are the fruits of my labours.
Apologies for the slightly annoyed expression in nearly every photo – the sun was shining right into my eyes! Would you believe that this is winter?
The first dress is a Basque number that I picked up from Myer when I was in Perth recently. It was originally priced at $179, but I picked it up for $80 in the sale:
I have such a hard time photographing black, so I’ve bleached out a few photos so that you can see the detail of the dress and the texture of the fabric:
I love the shape of this dress, and the weird ‘raincoat’ fabric actually helps it keep that shape.
The following Table Eight dress I picked up at the same time on sale in David Jones. It was marked down from $179 to $22.50!
So back to online shopping, and here I feature the latest addition to my Diane von Furstenburg stable. Once again, black is really hard to photograph, so I’ve bleached out some photos so that you can see some detail:
In the photo below you can see that it is a wrap-around dress with a cowl neck detail. This dress cost me $100:

I love the way DVF dresses look in profile:
The back is open, and the ties come together at the back:
Next are my latest purchases from my beloved JolieVintageShop on Etsy. Honestly, that girl has a great eye for fashion. I’m still obsessed with everything she has in her store.
The first is an emerald green satin dress from the 1960s, which cost me $88:
Second is a teal satin brocade dress also from the 1960s. This one was $68:

The back of the DVF is a-mazing. The Table Eight dress looks so fun and colorful, gotta love it when dresses are mark down so much.
@Claire Yes! It’s similar to the navy DVF dress that I put my DVF collection post. So flattering on. I love a good markdown too! That Table Eight dress will be great in Spring
That DVF dress has a sexxxy back! Love it.
I really like the Table Eight dress, as well. So pretty and stunning on your shape.
@Angela I can’t wait to wear the DVF
I was surprised that the Table Eight dress looked so well on me! It actually helps to give me a waist.
Such a babe! The green and blue dresses are to die for <3
They’re all very pretty but OMG the dotted one, it’s sooooooo my cup of tea
Gorgeous dresses, I love the last one especially. So jealous that you can buy vintage that fits – well any dress really! ;P xx
I love all of these, they’re so pretty! I have such a hard time buying clothes online though, I can never get the sizing right
@Jade Thankyou! I still find it quite a challenge to take these photos. The green and blue are so wonderfully vibrant!
@MusingOnBeauty I didn’t think the dotty one would look so good on! Very feminine
@SparklzAndShine Thankyou! I love the fabric of both vintage dresses – they’re so vibrant! Finding vintage that fits certainly gets you in touch with your measurements
@Megan Thankyou! Buying clothes online is just a matter of practice. I bought a tape measure from Ebay for about $1 with cms on one side and inches on the other, and I check every time I buy something. Practice, practice, practice
You wear vintage so incredibly well. The shapes of these dresses and previous ones you’ve bought work so well on you. You’re almost curing me of my fear of vintage! Which is actually a ridiculous fear, because when I look at the cuts of these dresses, they’re very clearly cut to flatter and accentuate women’s shapes, which is frankly not a consideration taken with much of today’s clothing.
And the back of that DVF is marvelous. : )
They are all beautiful and fit you so well! The back of the DVF is stunning, love backless stuff, and the spotty one is so cute. I’ve been adding to my dress collection as well recently (the wedding is my excuse) so will have to photograph them soon. Judging from pictures I think we seem to like similar shapes x
@Emily Thankyou so much! One of the reasons I buy vintage is that for a relatively small price, you can buy something made from top quality fabric that’s tailored super well. I think the key is to know your measurements (and that of the frock) and know what shapes suit you. I’d love to know if you go ahead and buy any vintage! The DVF is so lovely
@Jen I can’t wait to see your collection! Very exciting. I do like a good frock
OMG I’m swooning over the Basque and DVF dresses! You have the perfect body type for dresses, you stunner you!
@Jen Awww thankyou
That polka dot dress is adorable on you! I love polka dots myself, they’re so fun!
@HopelesslyDevotedToMakeup Thankyou! I can’t wait to wear it in spring. Polka dots don’t feature greatly in my collection, but I’m liking them!
That teal dress on you is AMAZING. All of them are amazing, especially with such a beautiful figure. Thanks for a lovely post
@Tara Thankyou for the compliment *blush*
Obviously my eyes fell on the black dresses first and I love them! What fabulous bargains you picked up! I think the dress with the spots also looks great on you, you have a fantastic figure for it!
