Yet another purchase I made in the States recently was Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Cassis. Even though for the average person a purple liner may be an indulgent purchase, I’m an eyeliner fanatic and don’t leave the house without lining my top lash line (at least). I’ve bought the Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Ebene countless times, but I’ve been finding that black is a little harsh on me of late. Dark brown eyeliners have become my daily habit as they’re much more flattering on my skintone and they enhance my eyecolour. Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Cassis – a dark purplish-burgundy colour – seemed like a suitable variation on a theme.
After chatting to the Chanel sales assistant at Neiman Marcus about the Fall 2010 Collection, this eyeliner was the product that stood out to me. Clearly purples are all the rage, and the collection was stunning, but what did I really need? The Enigma quad was beautiful, but I really don’t need another eyeshadow quad. The blushes were beautiful too, but I have a fairly comprehensive collection of Chanel blushes already. The Stylo Yeux Waterproof seemed like something I would actually use, as it would go beautifully with any purple eye look.
Well, this liner has joined my collection, and I love it. It is the perfect liner to use with a purple eye look, but looks equally stunning with a smokey grey or brown eye look.
The colour is very beautiful and very, very wearable. You can see by the photos above that the liner applied to the top lash line looks like a softened black-purple, but the same liner on the bottom lash line shows more of the purplish-burgundy colour.
The good news for me is that it doesn’t budge. I have lots of trouble keeping eyeliner and mascara in place the whole day, but I have always found the Stylo Yeux formula very reliable. As far as waterproof, long-lasting eyeliners go, the product is one the hard side, so I scribble the liner on the back of my hand to warm up the product before applying. There are other, softer alternatives in the waterproof eyeliner category such as Lancome’s Le Stylo Waterproof and L’Oreal’s Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Liner, but their softness means that I run through them much, much quicker – particularly the offering from L’Oreal. Chanel’s Stylo Waterproof is not so hard that it tugs the eyelid, so it’s quite comfortable to apply. It also smudges out easily with a pencil brush and sets after about three minutes. The Chanel Stylo Waterproof also has a sharpener built in to the top of the pencil which is very handy.
I bough Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Cassis from Neiman Marcus for USD $28.
