My Diane von Furstenberg Collection

The gorgeous LipstickLuvvies must have heard me wax lyrical about Diane von Furstenberg more than once, because she has asked me to do a post on my collection of dresses from DVF. So here it is!

I really love Diane Von Furstenberg dresses.  They fit beautifully and are infinitely flattering.  If you have never tried one on, I encourage you to do so when you next see one.  All of these dresses are from past collections, but I’ve included the ‘name’ of each dress in case you want to hunt it down.

I have bought all of my dresses on Ebay and from a friend in Queensland who happily is the same size as me.  If you are looking to buy DVF dresses on Ebay, be aware of fakes.  If you’re searching for a dress from Fall 2008 onwards, look for a picture of the new holographic security tag that DVF are now putting in all their clothes. If you are looking for something before Fall 2008, make sure you read this guide (try this and this too) on authentic DVF clothing and how to spot a fake. You can buy current season DVF clothing on Shopbop or the DVF wesbite.

Apologies for my ‘staring at the ground’ pose in virtually every photo. The sun is incredibly bright here at the moment, even in autumn.  You can tell how bright it is by the scrunched face I have in a few of the photos below.

This was the dress that started it all for me.  The Sophia Loren dress:

I remember trying this dress on for the first time and being utterly stunned, because I had never seen myself in such a well-fitted dress before.  The beige and white colours are great for summer, and it’s made (mainly) from cotton and linen.

This black and cream dress – called Tai –  is an example of one of Diane von Furstenberg’s thick jersey dresses.  The geometric design at the front adds interest, and the cut of the dress adds curves:

I’ve worn this dress out for dinner and to an enagement party, and it was fanastic for both occasions.

The James dress has been wonderful to wear over summer too:

It’s got a distinctly 1920s feel, but the bright colours give it a modern edge:

I really like this dress, called Elili and made from cotton.  However, it’s too big for me, and I haven’t got around to having it altered. I take a size 8 in DVF dresses but for some reason this dress is bigger than the others.

You can see in this picture how it gapes around the mid-section:

This is a great throw on dress, called Caitrin.  It’s very comfortable to wear, and the blue-grey colour can be paired with both bright and neutral accessories.

The pockets are real, but aren’t much good for actual storage:

This has to be my favourite DVF dress, called Lorelei, even though it’s only appropriate for evening wear.  It’s a silk chiffon grecian-style dress that drapes beautifully on the body. I just wish I could capture the beauty of this dress in photographs!

I love the way it draps at the front and the back, but maintains a modest hemline. These characteristics give it quite a retro feel. Damn that sun is bright!

The back is my favourite aspect.  I wore this to a summer wedding recently and it was wonderful to have the cool summer breeze on my back after a hot day. It’s also worth noting that as this is one of Diane von Furstenberg’s wrap dresses, I bought it in a US size 10.  I’m a size 8 in her other dresses, but a size 10 in her wrap dresses.

So there’s the collection!

Those are stunning! My favourite one is the first one though – the attention to detail in the white section at the top is gorgeous.

  18. Dempeaux says:

@Cclarebear I love that one too. It’s so flattering! 🙂

  19. Jennifer says:

Thank you so much for doing this post, it has provided great inspiration for wedding outfits, just what I needed! I think I like the first and the last one best. The draping of the last one is so flattering and the kind of look I’m after, similar to some of the Issa stuff I’ve been looking at. The wedding is very English Country House style so I don’t want anything too ‘out there’ or short/low cut, just appropriately elegant. Looks like DVF could fit the bill perfectly. Are they all comfortable to wear? x

  20. Stef says:

What a gorgeous collection, I love every single dress!! Thanks for sharing the resources regarding authentications too ♥

  21. Jennifer says:

Having had another read of your post and searching through pics online I’ve decided I need the Sophia dress in my life! Apparently there is a navy version from 2009 and it would be perfect for the evening bit of the wedding. I adore high waisted things and this dress looks so flattering, a great length and lovely on you. I guess I’ll have to stalk eBay for the next couple of months and hope one turns up in a UK 12! x

  22. Such beautifully cut dresses. I love the shape of the Sophia Loren, it’s so effortlessly chic. Thanks for enduring the sun to share these pictures 😀

  23. Dempeaux says:

@Jennifer No problem! I’ve never thought about it before, but DVF dresses are incredibly comfortable to wear! 🙂

  24. Dempeaux says:

    @Stef No problem! 🙂

  25. Dempeaux says:

@Jennifer Oh I know exactly the dress you mean! I’ve thought about buying the navy version more than once. I read that it appeared in an episode of Gossip Girl, so it’s been quite popular. If you’re a UK 12, look for it in a US 8. Good luck with the Ebay stalking! I hope you find it!

  26. Dempeaux says:

@Jane Thanks Jane – that sun was so darn bright! 😉

  27. 25FLONDON says:

All the dresses are lovely, but I particularly love the last dress. The shape & cut is stunning – especially the drape at the back! It looks great on you, very flattering!

  28. Dempeaux says:

@25FLondon Oh I agree – it’s so beautiful. It feels great on too 🙂

  29. What a lot of great DVF styles! My favourite is also yours, the draping is perfect and it looks fabulous on you. I wish you had been in NY recently, there were many DVF reductions in the Fashion Girls for Japan sale I attended with some other bloggers. I should have got some for you 🙁

    Thanks for the fashion show!

  30. Dempeaux says:

@StyleOnTheCouch Wow, New York has just gone up in my estimation knowing that it features DVF on sale! 😉

  31. Witoxicity says:
