An Update

I’m a PhD student. I spend my days writing about 17th century poetry and working up articles for publication, which is a remarkably wonderful thing.

However, the countdown to submission has begun, and I’m aiming to submit my work for examination at the end of this year.  This means I’ve gone from feeling like a carefree John Lennon at the beginning of his career, to the smacked-out John Lennon recording ‘Revolution’ on the floor of a recording studio.  Stress is mounting, coffee is needed, and I feel a lot of pressure for my work to be stellar.

In terms of my blogging, this means that my posts may become less frequent, and perhaps more sporadic.  If I go for long periods of time without posting, you’ll know why.

Good luck! It sounds like a crazy amount of work but it’ll be worth it in the end 🙂
We’re usually our own worst critic so hopefully you can cut yourself some slack so the pressure doesn’t get to be too much!

  4. Claire says:

Good luck! and I’m sure you’ll do great 🙂

  5. Best of luck. I know it’s slightly different as my experiences are all limited to science PhD but I’ve seen the pressure mounting before and that final push is stressful. I loved that picture of Mordor and know exactly what you mean! Keep on trucking x

@Bug Thankyou! I’ll try and take a few breaks here and there, but I’m expecting it to be quite full-on!

Good luck! I know you’ll do an amazing job. It’s good writing weather at the moment, cold and wet so perfect for staying snuggled up inside.

  12. Jennifer says:

Good luck, I know it can be really difficult to keep motivated when coming to the end but keep going. Am sure the end result will be brilliant, and it makes me feel a little better when struggling with revision that someone else is stressed and working too! x

  13. Nat says:

Good luck Sarah, I’m sure it will be brilliant.

And man I do not miss university days at all!

  14. Chloeblue2005 says:

Oh I know that feeling when the pointy end comes and you have to prove you have actually learned something while studying. Good luck (I’m sure you wont even need it) and however frequently you post I’ll be happy to read them all 😀

@GlossQueen Thanks so much Anissa 🙂

@Chloeblue2005 Thankyou! It’s great to have those positive thoughts 🙂

Best of luck! I always imagine you sitting there working on your PHD all glammed up in your DVF dress while Lamington frolicks outside the window in a wide brim straw hat with a flower on it.

  20. Having complete a doctorate in psychology I can sooo understand all of the feeling in this post. When you finish you’re going to have such a sense of achievement though, you really will. And we’ll be calling you Dr Dempeaux which is just glorious 🙂

  21. Dempeaux says:

@Jess If only the reality was as fun and glamourous 😉
